Patti Larson wrote an article in “Pregnancy Today” magazine about her experience of receiving help from chiropractic care. Of course being a magazine for parents to be, it’s fitting that she herself was pregnant too. Like other pregnant women, she unnecessarily suffered from fatigue, pain, and stress due to her changing body shape and wild hormones. Unlike some pregnant women, she sought care from a chiropractor for relief of many symptoms associated with pregnancy. Since her body was changing rapidly due to baby in the oven, she received chiropractic care weekly, and sometimes more often, depending on how she presented.

Her Chiropractor, who is also a Doctor, explained that chiropractic care would benefit her situation. Chiropractic deals with the functioning of the nervous system. The nervous system works optimally in the absence of stress, which could be physical, emotional, or chemical stress. Take a moment to think about your past day, week, or month, weren’t you stressed? Stress doesn’t only come when you’re pregnant, it is a part of life. You’d agree that birthing is stressful too, which causes stress in everybody involved. Stress is the cause of subluxation.

Chiropractic is only for those who want to be functioning at their best levels. That means, chiropractic care can help during labor too. It can be used in place of many drugs associated with birthing, such as inducing, pain management, and relaxation.

Although science’s limited methods of research has not found a link satisfying medicine’s causal relationships to explain chiropractic, chiropractic care shares many anecdotal success stories. Newborns who receive regular chiropractic care have been shown to have less likelihood of colic, ear infections, colds, or other sicknesses or diseases. This is especially important as young immune systems have not yet developed the capacity to deal with all pathogens it will meet.
